Darryl rides his bike around Dartmoor, and here is as far away from an Olympic velodrome as he could be! We do not see him as much as we would hope but he is sure to race for the team at the major events. Cycling fit at all times, he can race on any day of the year. A key rider in the track quartet, but competes in most events from Omnium to pursuit race. He also rides in the road team, is a truly formidable climber, bound to attack when the going is up and is the last person anybody wants on their wheel in a hill finish. He is also a hilly TT specialist and prologue expert.
Ever easy-going, we are yet to see him get upset no matter how many team wheels he wrecks, and not even a "fiddlesticks" is heard when defective kit halts his progress. Should a team mate complain, he tells them of harder times when cyclists actually cycled to events, coaches that confiscated winter overshoes, and when cyclists slept with open windows in winter.
A great all-rounder, we think Darryl drinks from the fountain of youth and when racing beats riders half his age. Trackside, Darryl is the one singing along to his Ipod, filling his head with music as he preps for a race.
